Welcome Home Jesse

Happy Kids! Join me in welcoming home Jessica Watson to the Sunshine Coast in Queensland, Australia.

Jessica is the one and only 16 year old girl to sail single-handedly, unassisted around the world.

Everyone at Happy Kids Festival is thrilled that a local girl, we live at Mooloolaba too, completed such an amazing feat.

No doubt we will hear lots more from Jesse. Here’s the latest comment from her blog.

“I’ve really enjoyed hearing from so many people particularly young girls telling me about their dreams.

I remember how un-confident I use to be and it’s made me realise that without the support and encouragement that Mum and so many others gave me back when I was first learning to sail, I’d never have made it around the world and would still be that un-confident little girl.

I love hearing about other people’s dreams and how my voyage has showed them that ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE!”

World Environment Day

Happy Kids, June 5 is World Environment Day! The United Nations holds World Environment Day from a different country each year and this year they are in Rwanda. Rwanda is a small land-locked country in central Africa.

Rwanda is home to the amazing Silver-backed Gorilla. It is the only place where they live in the world.

Many years ago a scientist named Dian Fossey went to live with the Gorillas to study them. They made a movie about her life called “Gorillas in the Mist”.

Scientists now say that there are only 700 gorillas left in the wild, so we need to get the word out to help save them.

In this presentation we meet some of the gorillas that Dian Fossey lived among and a brave man Jean Bosco Bizimuremyi who works there among the gorillas.

You will meet Pablo the Silverback Gorilla.

Where has Moon gone? Pekka is a tiny turtle who every night impatiently awaits her bedtime story.

But what if Jacyntha, the elder needed the moon to invent her stories.

Hey Happy Kids! What can you do to help Save the Planet?

Look at what these kids from The Park School in Brookline, U.S.A. are doing!

They are part of The Catalog Canceling Challenge. This is run in U.S.A.

Since they started their parents have canceled thousands of unwanted sales catalogs.

And that means Saving Trees!
